Day 4
Ginger of That Kind of Girl was the last one to submit her story. Her story wins posting rights for day four Monday just because of the sheer oddness and ick factor. Here is Ginger's story. I'm still traumatized!
The summer after I graduated college I went to Australia for a month and traveled around by myself. About 3 weeks into my trip, I found myself staying at a hostel in tropical (i.e. jungle-like) part of northern Australia. There was nothing in walking distance of this hostel but it was the coolest place I stayed. It was just a bunch of cabins in the middle of this immense feeling jungle. Needless to say, there wasn’t much to do except drink. So I drank. And I found this Canadian guy to drink with that was traveling around with one of his buddies. Anyone who knows a Canadian knows that they know how to drink. So we started drinking at dinner one of the first nights I was there. At midnight they had a ‘midnight wildlife sighting tour through the jungle” since, apparently, ferocious jungle animals only come out at night. By this time we were about 1 ½ sheets to the wind (in other words we had been drinking pints since about 6 pm). So we head out into the jungle with our headlamps and our crazy little Australia back-country tour guide and a few other crazy idiots who decided to sign up for this tour as well. We are wandering through the jungle, with our headlamps, spotting large insects and lizards, when I excitedly pronounce “There’s a frog!” Because, well, I was a little drunk so I was super excited I was the first one to find something besides an insect the size of my arm or a lizard. Then the guide goes “well, that’s actually a cane toad.” For those of you who aren’t familiar with the wrath of the cane toad on Australia, I will just say they are not liked very well. Not at all. The eat everything, destroy everything and can’t be killed…well…are very hard to kill. So the guide goes into a little lecture about the cane toads and how bad they are and this lady, a women on the tour by herself but had her kids and husband back at the hostel, says “Can you kill it?” Turns out she was quite the environmentalist and a native Australian so her hatred towards the cane toad was extremely ardent. The conversation between the two of them proceeded as follows (to the best of my memory):
Guide: “Well, since I am technically working and being paid to give you a tour, I can’t legally kill it, although you can as a private citizen….”
Crazy Women (CW): “Really?”
Guide: “Yeah, I mean I would but I can’t in front of all of you.”
CW: “So I can kill it? I mean I can’t just let it go? We can just let it go” (looking to us innocent drunk people for validation to kill this poor cane toad…instead finding us all stunned, and a little scared, that we are in the middle of the jungle at midnight with 2 people that obviously have NO problem killing a poor evil cane toad.).
Guide: (this is where it really starts to get weird) “If you killed it that would be awesome (or some Australia slang that means the same thing).”
Their conversation goes back and forth for what seems like ages along these same lines. The CW finally decides she has to do it. The rest of us are so stunned we don’t even know what to do. The CW proceeds to pick up a large stick and beat the poor cane toad. The thing about cane toads, like I mentioned before, they do not go easily into the dark night. On a regular basis, people poison and run over (with their cars) cane toads and they do not die. Cane toads apparently have the ability to pretty much throw up their insides so they can be smooshed flat, then swallow them and hop on their merry way.
The CW keeps beating this poor toad. Over and over again. She FINALLY thinks it is dead and stops, only to have the toad start trying to hop away. So she picks up a rock and finishes the job. IT TOOK HER LIKE 5 MINUTES to kill this damn thing, all the while us poor innocent folks are just standing there freaked the shit out in the middle of the jungle.
So, after the massacre, the tour continues, all of us too stunned to even know what to do. We all just want to get the fuck out of there. Soon enough, we come across another cane toad. AND SHE DID IT AGAIN! All the while the tour guide is L-O-V-I-N-G IT! ABSOLUTELY LOVING IT.
We eventually finish the tour and go back to the hostel. The Canadian and I kept drinking long into the night (to drown the memory of the toad killings…or maybe because it was fun and we had nothing else to do). Around 4 am we started stumbling back to our respective cabins….we didn’t make far though…we ended up in the bathrooms making out in the shower stall (give me a break, it was the only place where we wouldn’t wake up any of our roommates).

Welcoming Codi
The day started out at 5:30 AM. We checked into the hospital and I was placed in my room. The nurse came in and told me she would be giving me an IV, catheter and shaving me. I thought wow, well shit, you sure making having a baby fun. She lifted my gown and was so impressed with the shaving I did at home that she said I didn't have to be re shaved. PHEW! Then she gave me the IV in my hand and OWWWW that hurt. Finally she came in and put in the catheter. My mood went from great to, BIG HUGE ASSHOLE in about 3 seconds. I suddenly was cramping and pissed off at everyone and mad they did it an hour and a half before delivery. After people started flooding the room and touching me here and there I was relieved to hear we were headed to the delivery room. They took me into the delivery room which was fuuuureezing and had me sit on a table. The anesthesiologist told me I would feel a little prick similar to what the needle at the dentist feels like. Ha I didn't even feel that much. It maybe felt like I poked myself with a fork or something. Then I guess he gave me the epidural and I didn't feel a thing. They had me sit there for nine seconds and my legs got warm. They laid me down and put up the drape and this time I felt amazing. The anesthesiologist did an amazing job this time and he numbed me to just the right spot. The doctor told me everything that was happening and then he said, okay you will feel a tug and then you should hear a cry. I felt the tug, and I heard Wha OMG HE IS PEEING ON YOU aaaa. That's right hearing his first cry was interrupted by the entire delivery room shouting that my brand new son had just peed on me about 2 seconds after being born. It was actually pretty funny because I knew from being pregnant this kid was going to be a little feisty and boy was I right. They took him to the table and he kept whaling which was so reliving and awesome to hear. They cleaned him up and the doctor kept turning around to tell me how perfect and amazing Codi was. His feet were half the size of Brandon's surf board feet and he had a full head of hair. Everyone joked that was probably the cause of my heartburn. Rob and Codi left after that and they went off to the nursery for a bath and what not. I hung out and got stitched up and I did way better then last time. I didn't even start screaming I CAN'T FEEL MY LEGS or anything. They took me to recovery and said I could see Codi when I could move my toes. They say it takes about an hour which was just right and I waited for the hour and then suddenly I guess I was moving my whole leg. They all giggled at me and right at that moment Rob walked in and said Codi was all ready for me. They wheeled me to my room and brought in Codi. He proceeded to pass right out in my arms. He slept there for ever and woke up and latched on like a champion nurser and passed right back out. He did this the rest of the night. He even slept in his little bassinet thing for hours at a time and that shocked me since Brandon wouldn't go in his bassinet thing for 40 seconds. Codi spent from 12:40 to 5AM sleeping in his bassinet. I am still astonished as he is in his bassinet right now. I changed his first poopy diaper this morning and right as I pulled off his diaper he started pooping more. So I wipe and out came more poop and more and more and then he peed on me. I finally gave up just put a diaper on him and let him sit for a while in the Boppy while he finished pooping. Then he fell right back to sleep. This kid might be the most peaceful baby I have ever seen in my life. I love it. I wonder how long it will last because he it is really fun having two totally different kids. Last night Brandon finally warmed up to him and rubbed his back and belly and gave him a few kisses. Then he saw Codi start nursing and Brandon kind of freaked out. He crawled over me and started trying to pull my boob out of his mouth and he got really close and kind of seemed like he was about to try and lick my boob. The whole thing totally cracked me up. Brandon kept poking my boob and finally he gave up and kissed me bye.
So far I've only been allowed broth and cream of wheat so needless to say I AM STARVING. I already got my catheter and IV out and am already able to walk around and I even just got to take a shower. I am now devising a plan to have grilled cheese and french fries smuggled in here so I can finally eat some damn food! I am going to go now and stare at my son while trying to figure out how to upload photos from my moms camera contraption doohicky so you can all oggle my little man more!

I am a guest blogging PIMP.
HO-LA! COMO E-STAS? This is Jen from Lost in Translation bloggin in for Shannon for the day! WHOOT! This means I don't have to post on my own blog today, right?! Eh...
Anywhoozle. Let's not talk about my blog. All I've been doing over there is complaining and trying to brainstorm ways to get my baby out. Any of yoooooou happen to have any new ideas?!? No? FINE. No really, it's FIIINE. I still have two weeks left anyways- but UGh. I swear to GOB he dropped like 4 weeks ago these fake-o contractions are getting to be a bit of a hinderance and.... Oops- forgot! Not going to talk about it... shutting up... right.... NOW! : )
So, what to write about???
**** 2 HOURS LATER ****
Ok, so I have been thinking thinking THINKING about a topic and it appears that my mind is completely and utterly focused on labor and delivery and NOTHING will steer me away from it... Not even gossip about Brit Brit.
SO: Since I know there are a lot of mommies who read this blog I am going to throw out the following topic for discussion:
I have been doing a lot of reading on labor symptoms and contractions and how can you tell what is which and how it feels and yadda yadda yadda. It seems there are certain things that are supposed to happen when you are going into labor, ie: Mucous plug, bloody show (ew!), rupturing of membranes, contractions, etc, etc. From what I understand, in a "textbook" labor situation is one where you first have a bloody show, then your mucous plug comes out, then your water breaks, and in there somewhere you start having contractions. The contractions increase in strength and duration and then eventually OUT pops your baby!
HOWEVER, the more message boards I read and personal experiences I hear, it seems like more often than not people have labor experiences that are "supposed" to be "the exception" to "the rule", ie: Women only having minimal discomfort and then giving birth after a short labor, women whose water did not break and mucous plug did not come out, women who did not know they were in labor because it felt like gas, menstrual cramps, etc...
So I want to know: were your labors "TYPICAL"?? What did your beginning contractions feel like?? Was it like gas? Or period cramps? Did you have diarrea first?? (NO THIS IS NOT TMI- NOT TODAY!)
Is everyone's experience TRULY UNIQUE? Or can similarities typically be drawn??
My doctor has told me that I will KNOW when I am in labor and that it will NOT feel like mentrual cramps- yet I have heard of women who are like, dilated and crowning who did not have painful contractions at all!
See, normally I would ask Shannon these questions since she is my go-to on all topics Mommy-related... however she has never been in labor so now I must pimp out her blog for my own personal gain. Bwuuahahahahahahaaaa!!
So yeah:
PLEASE ADVISE!
XXXOOO!
