Cooking my heart out

Since being on maternity leave (sort of) I've been able to at least be home early enough to cook something good every night. I've tried to remember to post pictures and recipes on the food blog every night. Hop on over and check out my skillz!

Tasty Temptations

Also notice over there on the left sidebar I have a nifty little widget showing you what recipes have been posting most recently. Don't forget you can search the site by protein, ingredients, sides and so on just by checking out the label section!

The golden necter of grossness

The sickie in his bed being the king of the world, watching Back in the Back yard on his brand new cable DVR box hooked up to his Superman TV! Do you know what this means???? This means my Tivo can finally have room for something other then Dora, Mermaid, Tigger, JoJo, Wubzy, Cow, Elmo, Monster House, Mickey, Pooh and on and on and on!

My kids are sick. Both of them. And if you thought a two year old with a stuffy nose who couldn't breath was sad, well a 4 week old who can't breath is even sadder. Since he can't breath he has had trouble nursing at night. That is even sadder then the first part of the sad. Anyway since he can't nurse well I keep waking up with a lot of milk. However last night about 2am I was full. My boobs were FULL!!!! He nurses some on one side but not the side that was bursting at the seems. I thought about pumping but really didn't want to bug the whole house. So I just went back to bed. The next thing I know I woke up in a puddle. I was laying on my left side and so much milk had leaked out of my right boob that it was literally filling up my bra on the other side. Enough that I could actually dunk my finger in it. Fun huh? Yeah that was terrific. Since I'm lazy I grabbed a cloth diaper (I use em as burp rags) and tucked it into my bra and called it even. Nope I woke up with a sopping wet bra and shirt and child (he was sleeping with me). I had to pump this morning when I woke up because if not Codi totally chokes and then spits out all his milk. Can you believe after all that leaking I still got about 6 oz off my right boob alone? Yeah it was that full. I then got 2 off my left (he had been nursing off that side at night thats why it was less). But still 6 ounces on one side people I can't even imagine the amount I would have gotten last night had I not leaked out about 38 ounces on myself. I do not love waking up drenched thats for sure!

In other news Brandon spewed out cream cheese vomit all over my couch last night. And no amount of upholstery cleaner (I so just spelled upholstery with an A, apolstry, hmm), Fabreeze, and Lysol are taking the smell out. So I'm sitting her smelling this rotting milk smell and I keep thinking, "omg your bra is rotting from all the leakage last night," but then I stop and realize that NO its the tub of cream cheese my sick child puked up last night. I'm going to have a damn nervous break down over this. I would just wash all the cushion covers AGAIN but he puked on the back of the couch too...you know the kind I can't just wash!

Brandon is laying next to me and he is giving me a shot up his nose and I can see the boogers from here. Man oh man this stuff is sad.

Lets see what else. My husbands old bosses wife came over last night to bring us dinner. Seriously he hasn't worked there in over a year but they still love him. I'm not sure I've met nicer people. She brought us dinner as something nice after having Codi. She brought, mashed potatoes with garlic, chicken, garlic bread and cheese bread, a salad and cookies. Cookies of the Gods by the way, I need her recipe. She even put it in a fancy little basket and covered it with pretty table clothes. Then she packed Brandon a present and got me a cute Scrapbook for Codi. Now that is a lot of work for someone to go through for a guy who hasn't worked for them in over a year and only worked for them for about a year. Does that give you an idea about the kind of guy I'm married to? Yeah, he's that guy. The guy that everyone loves. Not just because he is nice (but omg is my husband about the nicest friendliest guy you'll EVER EVER meet) but because he also does his job. He is such a hard worker, and not because he wants to show off, or hes trying to get over time or something, nope hes just that way because its his nature. You do something, you do it 100%. So that means that when he worked for that boss the boss that basically didn't like anyone and was mean to everyone (they did construction so there was a lot of yelling), he was the one getting called pet names like son, or buddy. He was the only one given a full week off paid leave when he had a baby (another guy had one same week and didn't get a dime), he was the only one who got time off for my other surgeries, in fact he got flown back from his job site by his boss just to make sure he was home in time. He was the only one who basically never got in trouble and his boss and his wife still to this day talk to us. They don't speak to anyone after they quit. Not us. They have brought a present to both of Brandon's birthdays. His wife emails me, and last night they brought over a full dinner. So you see, thats the kind of man I married. The man that makes the biggest meanest bully of a boss turn into your goddamn best friend or your dad. In the mean time I can't stop eating cookies because they might be the best cookie I've ever had in my life.

My Moby

My mom just got me this thing. It's called a Moby. It's soooo cool. I can wrap Codi up about 9 different ways. I've done two so far. This is how he is sleeping right now. It's organic cotton, super soft and way comfy for me and him. I think I need like 2 more, one for my car so I have it at the store and mall and one for work and then my home one. These things are just awesome. You all need one now!

Wamart makes the men do strange things

Does your Walmart have anything in front of it? Mine has a nail salon and an eye glass place in front. Every time I walk out I check out the little nail salon for no good reason. Twice now though on two separate occasions I've looked in there to see men getting manicures. Now let me first say I see nothing wrong with men getting manicures at all. I do find it strange though that that would pick Walmart to get them, especially since it is a wide open space in the very front of the store where every single person has to pass to get out. Because of this I find it terribly hard to not giggle at them when I walk by. I don't know why I find it funny. I mean, it's Walmart and it has happened twice in one month that I've seen these extremely dorky looking men sitting there getting their manicures. Do you find it funny or is it only me who is giggling about this. I mean if your going to do it, go to a salon or a nail place where you are inside and no one can walk by and laugh at you.

No regrets

You know I have to say I'm shocked at all of you. I really expected at least one person to question me having my tubes tied. I was totally stunned when no one tried to question me. Whoah. Anyway this time I know that I did the right thing. You know, when I had Brandon I would always walk around saying, "with our next kid..." or "next time", or "if we have a girl." This time however there is no next time. Not because I can't, but because I just know I'm done. You see as many times as I sat there saying I WILL NEVER HAVE ANOTHER CHILD, after Brandon, a part of me always knew I was lying. I saved all his clothes, I saved all his gear, because deep down inside I knew I was the biggest liar ever on this earth and my pants were so far on fire they might as well have just turned to ash. I knew I wanted just one more. I knew I really wanted that one more to be a boy. While I joked about pink and pony tails and dolls and frills, deep down inside I somehow knew I was going to have two little boys and be done. So I had my tubes tied and I'm happy. While I know I'll never sit there saying, wow I wish I had another, I know there are other things that will seem weird. I know it will be totally weird never thinking, OMG am I pregnant every time I throw up or have a weird symptom. It will be weird knowing Rob and I can free willy it all we want and nothing can ever happen. I honestly think that part of it will be a huge adjustment. Sort of like this last pregnancy was an adjustment. I was so prepared for an uphill battle that when I got pregnant like over night I didn't know what to do with myself. Thats how I think this will feel. I don't know what I will do with out having to think about condoms first, or birth control or the oops he was too drunk to pull out. I mean, really do you know how strange it will be to have no responsibility? Shit, this is going to be like high school all over again!

FOR ALL YOU SCIENTIFIC SMARTIES OUT THERE

SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME HOW ONE LARGE FRESH EGG IS 73 CALORIES, HOWEVER 1 LARGE HARD BOILED EGG IS 77 CALORIES? HMMMM HOW DOES AN EGG GAIN 3 CALORIES BY BEING COOKED?

Technical difficulties

Saturday I was making some toast to go with my cream of wheat. I sat down and ate breakfast and later came back in the kitchen to clean up and make some lunch. I wondered who made toast. Then I realized I had made it but forgotten to eat it. Dummy.

This morning I was making coffee and then I went to make some hard boiled eggs. I went to pour my coffee and noticed the coffee pot was never turned on. I'm doing good. I went to grab my toast and realized I never pushed it down or plugged it in. Wow I'm on some kind of roll here huh?

On another note. Do you do anything sort of gross? I'm really into clean things. Clean stove, clean kitchen and twice washed dishes. However, every morning I grab the coffee pot dump out yesterdays coffee and then just do a little swish with water and start over. I don't know why I don't wash the pot with soap each time. Is this gross? Do you use soap every morning? Do you have something half gross you do every day?

Tummy time with the hams

Brandon made me lay down on one side of Codi while he laid on the other side. He would tell me to "pet" Codi here and that he would "pet" Codi there. It was very cute.

In other news, I picked up Codi today and Rob looked at me and said, "you're a good mom" for no reason. Swoon!

Product review = awesome

When I was putting my diaper bag together this time I wanted to put in a small baby shampoo, lotion and rash cream. I like natural stuff so I usually use the Johnsons natural wash and lotion because it smells freaking amazing. Anyway Ginger and I went all over the place and we couldn't find mini bottles of the Johnsons natural so I started looking elsewhere. I hate the plain old Johnsons and I don't like Desitin. While we were at Target we saw this cute little pack and I thought it couldn't be that bad to throw in the diaper bag. It is natural and good for the baby so I would give it a shot.
I basically ignored it until this weekend at my moms house while we were changing Codi. He has had this little rash that actually started out as baby pimples but morphed into an irritation and would not go away. The Aveeno rash cream wasn't phasing it. Anyway I grabbed this cream and told Rob to toss some on so he at least had something on.

When we got home I went to change Codi and was shocked to see the rash was significantly better. I changed him and put the Aveeno back on since that is what is on my changing table. The next diaper change the rash was back. I ran to Target and bought a large size of the rash cream 3oz for $8.99 and tried it out. Over night his rash is almost completely gone. I was totally shocked at how well and how quick this cream worked. It is much thicker then both the Aveeno and Desitin. It has a nice lavander herby smell to it and isn't greasy on my fingers. I love love love this product and now I'm dying to go out and buy the wash and lotion and see how that works also. Target was out of the lotion yesterday so I'm going to see if Whole Foods has it today.
