Pretty sure I'm going to regret this later. However since most of you are way ahead of me on this I'm going to open this up for some serious assvice here. Ya'll said go ahead and potty train. Only problem. I'm pretty sure I have zero clue exactly how this potty training thing goes. Old organized Shannon would have pulled out all of my books and bought about 45 more while researching online all the perfectly right ways to do this. However, new worn out, overwhelmed, lazy mom Shannon says it sounds so much easier to just let you all tell me how it worked for you. I'll pick the best sounding one and go from there and when that doesn't work I'll move on down the list. Oh yeah be specific. Someone said they used a timer. Only they didn't tell me how long they set the timer for, did they use the timer for how long the kid was on the potty or how long between being one the potty, what kind of timer did they use, was it an egg, or the microwave or some cute froggy looking timer.

i am new to this process, like you, and only started a week ago. Perhaps we can figure this out together..... My son became interested back in nov but my daughter was due in december and I didnt want to start at that time. We read books on potty training a lot and he would go from time to time, however, last week he woke up in the middle of the night and asked to go, and successfully went! This is when I decided to start. He is 21 months old. I put him in underwear in the morning and set the timer on the microwave for every 5-10min. We have a seat that fits on to the toilet and a stepping stool in front. He can climb onto the toilet himself, but needs help to pull down his pants. Every time he was successful, I made a HUGE deal about it, dancing and singing and gave him a treat (2 yogourt covered raisins) Over the course of the day, I started to figure out his schedule a little better and extended the timer to about 20min, unless I knew he was getting close and then I would go for less time. He started to run to the bathroom on his own when the timer went off. The second day, I did the timer for every 20-60min and the third day I stopped the timer. Now, I remind him every so often and if I think he needs to go I take him, other than that, I let him tell me. We have succesfully gone downtown a few times and I even bought a potty for the back of the mini-van, "just in case" he needs to go while we are out.....we havent needed it yet. I put him in diapers or pullups for naps and night time. We have had a few accidents but mostly when we are running to the bathroom and just dont make it in time. If you have anymore questions, just ask!
whoah, that was long! LOL
..last time LOL....... I was going to say that your son was born on my son's due date. Aiden finally came on August 5th!
We did the naked till you figure it out method. It was summer, and Becca was naked from waste down for a week ... by the end of that week she knew how to use the potty. I had to keep her going with reminders and used a little small Baby Bjorn (keep one in the car too).
We read 5-6 books to her about potty time & those books remain in the bathroom for her :)
Now she does it all herself ... but it took a few months for her to get there.
